Brown Sugar and Agave Lip Scrub

Standard

Image

Ah, lip scrub! I have a wretched cold and breathing through my mouth is killing my lips. Chapped, flaky, sore. It’s really a fun time over here on my face, in case you couldn’t tell.

So I decided to try my hand at a lip scrub. Not very different from a body scrub, really, just a few different ingredients. Just as easy! I quadrupled the recipe to make about half a jar, I’ll probably make more in a week or so. A little bit goes quite a long way!

Ingredients:
2 teaspoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon Agave (or honey)
1 teaspoon oil (I used olive, though grape seed or coconut could work, any moisturizing oil)
1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract (you can play around with other tasty flavours, too!)

I mix the agave and oil together first, to make sure it’s combined, then add in the vanilla, and then the brown sugar. Make sure all of the sugar is mixed in! You want a nice thick mixture, not too soupy. The agave helps bind it all together into a nice consistency!

To use: Scrub those kissers and enjoy being free of dead skin! Perks? The oil and agave help moisturize – and the whole thing tastes yummy!

Sea Salt Hair Spray

Standard

Sea Salt hair spray is incredibly popular these days – everyone trying to achieve that ‘just left the beach look’. And I’m really no exception. I LOVE sea salt sprays, I just don’t love the dent they put on my finances. My personal favorite is Lush’s Sea Salt spray, but as much as I go through it and as tiny as their bottles are, I can’t justify the price spent. So, I decided to try out making my own! This is the first recipe I’ve used, and I hope to tweek it and adjust as need be. Hopefully you’ll find this helpful, and I’ll keep an update on how I’m liking it, too!

  • 2 tablespoons Epsom Salts (or more for extra texture, I used Lavender Epsom, so I didn’t have to add in any essential oil!)
  • 1/2 tsp Himalayan or Sea Salt
  • 1 teaspoon gel
  • 1/2 tsp conditioner or a few drops of almond oil or jajoba oil, or even coconut oil… which adds a really fun tropical scent!
  • Optional: a few drops of essential oils or a spritz of your favorite perfume for scent- Lavender and citrus are great options
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon lemon juice and 1 teaspoon vodka or alcohol- if you want to lighten hair (the lemon juice lightens and the alcohol preserves)

Mix all ingredients in a spray bottle (at least 8oz, if larger you can double the recipe for a full bottle.) with one cup of very hot water. Shake until sea salt is complete dissolved (about a minute or two). The oils will never fully dissolve, just make sure to give it an old shake before use!

Use: On damp or dry hair – spray onto hair and scrunch with hands or towel for beachy waves.

Lavender and Coconut Oil Sea Salt Scrub

Standard

This lil’ guy is great for hands, feet, body, and face! The epsom salt is smooth but exfoliating, and the oil helps replenish any dryness from this crappy winter season!

Image
You will need:
2 cups coconut oil
1 cup Epsom salt (I used Lavender Epsom, so I could omit the essential oil)
10-20 drops of essential oil, depending on your preferred scent

Mix ingredients in a bowl till completely combined, then store in air tight containers until use!

This smells like heaven.

Haystack Recipe!

Standard

This is the easiest little treat to make, and they are SO darn good. Since making them over Christmas I’ve been begged for the recipe, and here it is:

Image

  • 1 cup butterscotch chips
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup peanuts
  • 2 cups chow mein noodles

Melt together the butterscotch chips and the peanut butter. Either in a microwave, a double broiler, or like I did – in a sauce pan on low heat, stirring frequently!
Once melted together, add in chopped peanuts and chow mein noodles, stirring to coat all. Once all is coated, drop by tablespoons (depending on the size you’d like per haystack) onto parchment/wax paper. Let cool and harden on paper. I put them in the fridge to speed up the process 🙂

These are a crowd pleaser, and incredibly simple!
